I met Oscar over 5 years ago when I was living in La Paz, Bolivia volunteering with a Canadian non-profit organization. He was very shy at first so I asked him to help me improve my Spanish and it worked! We were inseparable for the remaining month of my placement & I enjoyed learning more about his culture through his eyes. I moved back to Canada for 9 months and missed Oscar terribly; everything reminded me of him but I honestly thought I’d never see him again. I applied to do some volunteer work in Guatemala and was surprised when they asked me to move back to Bolivia to take a similar position. Oscar picked me up at the airport 9 months after I’d said goodbye to him there and we were married a year later deciding we couldn’t be separated again! We have now been married for 3 years and Oscar is my best friend! I love him more everyday! He loves giving hugs and is such a loving, supportive & thoughtful husband. Marriage teaches you patience, understanding & selflessness. It has its difficult times but despite the disagreements I wouldn’t change it for anything! I love being married to my best friend and going through life’s ups and downs with him.  I feel so blessed to have Oscar in my life and thank God daily for him. After three years of marriage my advice is to learn to communicate effectively to get past misunderstandings. I also think giving lots of hugs and kisses helps relieve stress and is good for the soul!
