Buying a gently used wedding dress online is a great way to find a used-once, still gorgeous, full of love and luck, wedding dress and still leave room in the budget for other things…like incredible jewelry and those shoes you’ve been coveting 🙂
We have many, many beautiful dresses for sale on Wedding Recycle but how do you know which of those dresses will make you look and feel like a Bridal Princess when you slip it on? Here are a few tips to help you choose that perfect dress and feel confident it’s the one for you.
The highest quality dresses are designed for specific body types which is based on your bust, hip and waist measurements. If you’re unsure of your body type, either take your own measurements if you’re confident in doing that or use one of the free apps online that will help.
I don’t know about you but part of the whole wedding planning experience for me was going to the bridal salon with my wedding party, asking questions, being admired in front of the huge mirrors and generally being “girly”. Even if you’re planning to buy your wedding dress online, there’s no reason you can’t still have the bridal salon experience…in fact, I encourage it! You *should* try things on, see what sort of material feels soft to the touch, flows the right way over your curves and whether or not the dress is going to be too heavy to dance the night away. You’ll want to try on all the different styles you’ve researched (now that you know your body style) and see which ones you feel the most comfortable in. Check out the various designers – who has the most bling, who designs with simple and classy lines, or who has perfected the most secure method of bustle tying – and make note of your favourites. And who knows, maybe you’ll even find that exact same dress you’ve been eyeing up online!
Probably the biggest hesitation I hear from Brides thinking about buying online is “what if I don’t like it?”. We all know it’s possible…we’ve found the perfect outfit/couch/artwork that looks awesome online then when it’s delivered, it’s not exactly what you’d pictured. Same goes for buying your wedding dress online – you should feel confident, BEFORE you purchase, that if the item isn’t exactly what you want, there is a way you can return the dress without too much trouble. The beauty of Wedding Recycle is the sellers are all women who have been there, purchased their own wedding dresses and therefore know and understand the emotional investment in making such an important purchase. So ask them – ask their thoughts on returning the dress if it’s not what you’re looking for, what their time limits would be as far as how many days after purchase they’d consider taking the dress back. If you’re buying local, even better as you’ll be able to try the dress on prior to purchase but that’s still no reason to be scared to purchase from someone who doesn’t live near you – it’s very likely they’ll understand the motivation behind your questions on their return policy and will be open to the discussion. But be reasonable too – these women want to see their dress go to another Bride who will look as beautiful as they did and perhaps pass it along to another Bride down the road 🙂
